Surge is currently accepting applications for the position of Development Engineer, Southeast Saskatchewan.

The Development Engineer will report directly to the Director, Development Engineering and will work as a key member of the Southeast Saskatchewan technical asset team. This position will be responsible for exploiting and optimizing existing oil assets and identifying new oil resource opportunities.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Primary engineering support on a multi-discipline asset team, responsible for development planning, waterflood/EOR design and optimization
  • Lead asset team meetings pertaining to development drilling, waterflood/EOR, potential acquisitions, and landsales
  • Direct asset team and work with Business Development group to identify and economically evaluate opportunities such strategic property acquisitions and new drilling techniques
  • Evaluate and direct reservoir depletion and optimization strategies
  • Provide engineering input and economic evaluations for potential drilling locations and re-entries
  • Ensure the accuracy of corporate reserves through the annual external auditor evaluation process
  • Manage production and capital budgeting and forecasting using Val Nav software
  • Ensure all regulatory and environmental compliance requirements are met

Qualifications: 

  • A Professional Engineer with a minimum of 8 years of experience
  • A background in exploitation/development engineering with an emphasis on primary oil development, waterflood, and EOR
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and planning skills within a multi-discipline asset team
  • Prior production or operations engineering experience would be considered a major asset
  • Economic analysis and evaluations. Decline analysis, production forecasting and reserves
  • Budgeting, capital management, project management, and cost control
  • Strong computing skills with software such as Val Nav, GeoScout, Verdazo and MS Excel
  • Experience with reservoir modelling or waterflood surveillance software would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Saskatchewan Energy Regulations
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
