Paul Colborne, President & Chief Executive Officer

Paul Colborne has over 22 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and has been involved in a leadership, executive or director capacity with over 30 oil and gas and energy services companies.  Mr. Colborne has successfully grown and, subsequently transitioned, a number of aggressive Canadian junior oil and gas companies into sustainable, modest growth dividend paying companies with excellent results, including: Startech Energy Inc., Crescent Point Energy Trust, and Star Point Energy Trust. At each of these companies, Mr. Colborne contributed to significant shareholder value being created.

Max Lof, Chief Financial Officer

Max Lof has 25 years of experience in oil and gas, electrical utility and capital markets roles. He has been involved in public and private, debt and equity financings, the valuation, execution and integration of acquisitions, risk management and investor relations, as well as oil and gas equity research. Prior to being a founding member of the team at Surge Energy Inc., Mr. Lof was a founder and Chief Financial Officer of Breaker Energy Ltd. Mr. Lof holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation as well as a Master of Business Administration degree from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta.

Dan Brown, Chief Operating Officer

Dan Brown graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary in 1980 and has extensive exploitation, production and exploration engineering experience in Western Canada. He held executive engineering positions with several successful, growth oriented, public corporations where he was involved with multiple development projects within Alberta and Saskatchewan. Mr. Brown was most recently Chief Operating Officer of Breaker and a Founder in Surge Energy Inc.

Margaret Elekes, Vice President Land

Margaret Elekes has 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry focusing on negotiations, acquisitions and divestitures in both Canada and the United States. Prior to being a founding member of Surge, Ms. Elekes held key roles with Breaker Energy Ltd and Upton Resources Inc. Ms. Elekes graduated in 1987 from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, obtained a major in Petroleum Land Management from the University of Calgary in 1991 and holds a P. Land Designation. She served on the board and continues to be an active member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen.

Murray Bye, Vice President Production

Mr. Bye is a Professional Engineer with more than 13 years of engineering experience including exploitation, production, and reservoir in Western Canada. Mr. Bye has held the role of Asset Team Lead - West at Surge since 2010 where he has been responsible for growing three core operating properties at Valhalla, Nipisi and Windfall. Prior to his role at Surge, Mr. Bye held a number of positions at EnCana Corporation between the years 2000 to 2010 including: Group Lead of Development, Exploitation Engineer, and Production Engineer. Mr. Bye graduated in 2000 from Montana Tech with a Petroleum Engineering degree.

Gerry de Leeuw, V.P. Geosciences

Gerry de Leeuw is a Professional Geologist with over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, primarily focused on the western Canadian sedimentary basin. Gerry graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1983 with a B.Sc. Honours in Earth sciences and from the University of B.C. with a Master of Business Administration in 1991. Over the past ten years, Gerry has served in a variety of senior executive roles with Devon Canada with his longest and most recent role as V. P. of Exploration and Development. In this role he was responsible for setting the strategic direction and capital allocation for the company and successfully managed to grow the company over a ten year period. Previous to Devon, he worked at a number of companies including; Northstar, TCPI, Amoco and Texaco where he gained experience through increasingly senior technical and management positions in exploration, business development, marketing, and planning. Gerry is a member of the C.S.P.G., A.A.P.G. and A.P.E.G.A.
